The Fast & Furious franchise has grossed over $5.8 billion and ranks as the 10th highest-grossing film series of all-time becoming Universal’s biggest film series to date. Not only did the first film launch a multimedia franchise that includes 10 films and a spin-off, but like an ‘ejecto seato’ it launched the careers of Vin Diesel and Paul Walker into the mainstream. Moritz happened to come across a documentary featuring footage from a 1955 film of the same name and Universal ended up licensing the title. Even producer Neal Moritz wasn’t set on the film’s title with Street Wars and Racer X being considered. When the first film launched in 2001, no one could’ve possibly seen what the franchise would become. The Fast & Furious franchise has reached a point where anything can happen including a possible crossover with dinosaurs. What is now known as ‘The Fast Saga’ has steered and drifted away from its street racing roots into a franchise that has become a combination of heist, science fiction, espionage, action, and much more. It has been 20 years since Dominic Toretto and Brian O’Conner were racing through the streets of Los Angeles in The Fast and the Furious.
